Past & Present Horses in Training

Welcome to some of the horses I have been working with so far.

2005 Morgan gelding : Toffee, the gelding I competed and won on at the Trainer's Challenge in St. Paul, Oct 2008. He was a fantastic little guy to work with - a little fearful and somewhat rebellious (came out by our third session together), he had been unstarted. Four sessions later he was started and moving out nicely under-saddle - and helped me win against two other professional trainers! He recently spent 60 days spring 2010 being started under-saddle to return to his owners for some mountain riding!

2004 Arabian mare
Princess was exceptionally green under-saddle and very spooky but after 60 days spring 2010 has since turned into a wonderful little partner that ties well, does w/t/c smoothly under-saddle, and even does leg yields, sidepass, and leads beautifully. Has even calmly done some light trail riding, just in the rope hackamore!

2005 QH mare : Chickadee was brought to me spring 2009 to be started under-saddle. I put 60 days on her prior to returning her to her owners. A great little mare (definitely cutting-bred!) - some explosive tendencies at first, but she went home a calm and relaxed mare even carting around beginners here and there.

2006 TB x Percheron mare
I put 30 days on this unstarted mare early summer 2009 prior to her returning home. Venus was highly explosive and though she calmed with work, was still somewhat reactive and explosive at times. A very nice-moving mare though with a lot of potential!

2006 QH gelding : Hard Twist came to me only halter-broke and very wary and fearful of people. After 60 days summer 2009 though he made a great horse who is currently trailing in the mountains with his owner.

2002 Paint gelding
Sunny was started as a 4yo and was ridden a bit but was turned out to pasture after he bucked his owner off. He was pretty reactive and bronc-ish around me and definitely acted like a stud at times. He came around with 60 days summer 2009 to once again make a good riding horse for his owners, who have since been riding him on a near-daily basis on their ranch!

2007 Welsh x Arab mare : Gypsy was halter-broke prior to her current owner purchasing her, but was very badly mishandled, creating a very deep-rooted fear and suspicion of humans. 60 days summer 2009 produced a filly who now allows herself to be caught and who is comfortable with doing basic groundwork (circling, picking up all 4 feet, having ropes tossed on her, etc). Her owner will continue to work on her, including packing her in the mountains and starting her come 2010.

2006 QH mare
A wonderful mare with a ton of talent, Havana came in spring 2009 with her half-sister Vienna to be started under-saddle. I put 30 days on her prior to sending her back to her experienced owner. She is currently being used as a H/J.

2006 QH mare : A great mare and half-sister to Havana, Vienna is a very quiet and patient mare. She did well in her 30 days spring 2009 and returned to her owners thereafter. She is now in a new home, where she is adored, due to time constraints on the part of her original owner.

2004 Dutch WB x QH mare
A great mare, I put 60 days on Formiss late 2008. She had been mishandled by a previous trainer but came around within days to be started under-saddle. After a stint back on the range at home, she returned to me summer 2009 for some further training and sale. She is a lovely mare with gorgeous movement, and has since gone to a new home!
